Abstract
Comparison are made between Hartree-Fock theory and the energy density formalism in case of the finite nuclei, using two simple interactions. As far as the bulk properties of nuclei are concerned, the two approaches yield similar results. The energy density formalism has a tendency to yield densities with tails shorter than in Hartree-Fock, a feature which seems bound to the Thomas-Fermi approximation.
