Abstract

The transition to H-mode is conditional to the achievement ofcertain critical conditions, generally dependent on both localquantities and global plasma parameters. A physicalunderstanding of the L-H transition process cannot improvewithout the development of theoretical models and their testingagainst such experimental evidence. The aim of the present paper, therefore, is to compare some of the physics-based theoreticalmodels with the experimental conditions for the L-H transitionin JET plasmas. The results show that although the modelsconsidered can offer a partial understanding of the processesinvolved in the formation of the edge transport, none of them canuniquely explain all the results.
