Abstract

Comparison of a group of 54 patients with HBP and functioning adrenal adenomas treated by CT-guided percutaneous ethanol injection (PEI) with two other groups, 50 patients treated by open-surgery (OS) and 37 patients treated by video-laparoscopy(VL) . The first group includes 39 women and 15 men. Patients submitted to percutaneous ethanol injection (PEI) can be released the next day after the procedure; this represents two days of hospital stay. We kept for investigative purposes these patients 4 days in the hospital. Results were calculated using clinical control six months after terapeutical procedures(OS, VS, and PEI) . In the group treated by PEI we achieved normal BP in 61,5% of the patients. In the remaining number we reduced the diary intake of anti-hypertensive drugs. In 2 patients we did not get any results. This means that we could obtain by this method good clinical results in an overall of 76,9% of the patients. In the groups treated by open surgery (OS) and video laparoscopy we obtained good results in 64% of the patients and in the group treated by video-laparoscopy 62%. The mean hospital stay for OS was 8 days and for VL 4 days. a) The results between these three methods are not statistically significant. b) CT-guided ethanol injection is less invasive, reduces significantly the costs and improves the life quality of the patients.
