Abstract

Objective To compare the effect of complete excision and traditional incision for chalazion. Methods Totally 284 eyes of 282 cases with chalazion were collected. One hundred and twenty four eyes of 124 cases received complete excision of chalazion, and 160 eyes of 158 cases received conventional incision surgical method.Postoperative follow-up was 6 months.Effects of the two kinds of surgical treatments were retrospectively analyzed. Results The effects of the two kinds of surgical methods were compared from five aspects: operation duration, wound healing, eyelid injury, relapse, and complications. Conclusion Both the two kinds of surgical treatments are effective.Complete excision has advantages of low recurrence rate and high degree of patient's satisfaction, but disadvantage is long operation time.For chalazion in children, traditional incision is recommended because of bad cooperation and needing of short operation time.For the elderly patients, the complete excision method is better.
