Abstract
Internet of Things (IoT) systems have not only become a common system that can be found nearly anywhere, these systems have now also become very connected to other systems, especially those used by businesses. Many businesses are now incorporating sensor data directly into their business systems. Solutions need to be found to create an efficient connection to the business systems, ensuring these systems are not directly interfacing with the sensors. This is done to reduce the complexity on both sides and reduce the resources required by the sensor. Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MQTT) provides an optimal solution for most Internet of Things systems when dealing with many sensors, unfortunately it is not compatible with most business systems. The Constrained Application Protocol (COAP) provides better compatibility when dealing with business systems due to the HyperText Transfer Protocol (HTTP) compatibility. The optimal solution then seems to use the two systems in unison to provide strengths to the other systems’ weaknesses.
