Abstract

Objective To find a convenient and practical method for detection of myocardial viability by bio-electrical technology. Methods Eighteen experimental piglets were divided into 3 groups. The animals in group A were preserved for 12 h at 4 ℃,those in group B for 6 h at 15 ℃,and those in group C for 4 h at 25 ℃.Myocardial dielectric properties (tanδm) were detected every 5 min and adenosine triphosphate (ATP) content was tested every 30 min, then the correlation between them was discussed. Results The time in which ATP contents were down to 50% was in the points of 4 h,2.5 h and 1.5 h in groups A,B and C respectively. And the tanδm values were 2.927,2.968 and 2.969 in 4 h,2.5 h and 1.5 h respectively.Tanδm was significantly related with myocardial ATP content ( r =0.664,P < 0.01 ).Conclusion tanδm has a close relationship with ATP content, and it may be a convenient and practical method for detection of myocardial viability. Key words: Myocardial viability; Hypothermic preservation; Adenosine triphosphate
