Abstract

Objective To study the influence of the postoperative radiotherapy(PORT) on the local recurrent rate of rectal carcinoma .Methods All patients were treated by Mile , s or Dixon operations ; and randomized into two groups after operation , PORT group (58 cases) were given radiotherapy to a total dose of 45Gy in posterior field and both side field for 4.5~5 weeks ,then followed by 10~15Gy, the other group (45 cases) were treated with only operation.Results The 1/2\| ?1\| and 2 years local recurrent rates were 8.89%?17.78%?35.56% in only operation group; and 1.72%?5.17%?12.07%in PORT group , respectively .The differences of local recurrent rates were significant between both groups after 1 year, and after 2 years .Conclusion The local recurrent rate of PORT group was obviously decreased in comparison with the only operation group.
