Abstract

Some sampling strategies are compared using Monte Carlo simulations. In particular the sampling distributions of the sample means of defoliation and DBH are compared using a 100 m × 100 m forest site of mature Norway Spruce ( Picea abies). The analysis considers possible spatial correlations. The results show that for this data set, a 10 m × 20 m plot design is almost as statistically efficient as two 10 m × 10 m randomly selected plots.
