Abstract

The utilization of rectangular micro-strip array antenna on mutual coupling decreasing with the metamaterial method is used as a reference to compare mutual coupling (S12 and S21) performance an antenna with other antennas. Why is the mutual coupling antenna performance chosen as one of the researching and also influences the performance is because the mutual coupling value is directly proportional to the affect of energy the large beam between the antenna elements. The greater mutual coupling value indicates the greater amount of energy that affects each other between the antenna elements as well. The greater influence of an antenna element with another antenna element, so the potential to reduce performance of each antenna element and this can not be used for researching. On this paper focuses on methods to suppress the mutual coupling value that affects each other between antenna elements. The method used in this paper uses ring and square metamaterial methods. This form of metamaterial is made between microstrip antenna elements arranged in an array. So that is expected to surppress the mutual coupling value that affects each other between the antenna elements. The dimensions of the microstrip antenna are used 28.8mm × 34.1mm × 0.03mm and work at 2.4GHz operational frequency. The simulation results obtained value of mutual coupling micro-strip antenna without using metamaterial was -18.4 dB. If using ring Metamaterial the result of mutual coupling shows -17.8 dB, if using a square metamaterial the mutual coupling result shows -15.4 dB at 2.4 GHz operational frequency. So it can be concluded that the antenna array of rectangular micro-strip using ring metamaterial is better than square metamaterial because it suppresses the mutual coupling value to -17.8 dB at 2.4 GHz operational frequency.
