Abstract

SummaryThe mechanical parameters of UD carbon fibre with polyamide and epoxy matrix using perpendicular tension and shear tests according to ASTM 7078 are compared. The polyamide matrix has been polymerized form ϵ‐caprolactam, therefore, specimen have a good fibre matrix adhesion but still sometimes suffer from inhomogen impregnation. This effect results in a higher standard deviation for PA specimen. Furthermore the specimen from polyamide have higher strain at break and stress at break. Epoxy specimen have a higher young's modulus and shear modulus.
