Abstract
Quasi static push over analysis is commonly used in assessing the Reserve Strength Ratio (RSR) of fixed offshore platforms. In this method, the lateral loads are proportionally increased until overall structural collapse is reached. In reality the forces imparted by the waves traversing the structure, are dynamic loads. If these lateral dynamic loads are to be used in push over analysis, they can provide a more precise estimation of the maximum load that can be resisted by the structure compared to the value derived using quasi static approach. The main objective of this study is to compare RSR of a sample fixed offshore platform in quasi static and a dynamic loading approaches. The extents of the effect of main input parameters in determination of static and dynamic RSR for offshore platforms are also investigated in this paper.
