Abstract

Carotid artery stenosis is an atherosclerotic disease that, if not treated, can have significant morbidity and mortality due to stroke. Management of carotid artery stenosis has evolved over the years. Initially, optimal medical management and carotid endarterectomy were the preferred treatments. Although still preferred by many surgeons, advancements in carotid stenting have made it a viable alternative, especially in necks with hostile anatomy. As medical therapy and stenting have continued to improve, we report the changing patterns in the delivery of carotid revascularization.
