Abstract
It is consensus that DA and Lewis (LEW) rats are generally highly susceptible to experimental arthritis. In this study, DA rats and LEW rats were compared for susceptibility to arthritis induced by immunization with various arthritogens: mineral oil alone, 1 or mineral oil together with mycobacteria, 2 muramyl dipeptide, 3 avridine 4 or rat collagen type II. 5 Furthermore, LEW.1AV1 rats were included to map clinical differences between the strains to genes within or outside the major histocompatibility complex (MHC).
