Abstract

Different samples of essential oil were isolated by hydrodistillation from leaves and seeds of Crithmum maritimum (sea fennel) cultivated in the South-East of Tunisia (Arid Area Institute-Medenine). The seeds of this species were collected from two accessions (France and Tunisia (Sousse)). These samples were found to be a yellow liquid, obtained in a yield of 0.26 to 3.6% and were analysed by GC/MS. The major components of these samples were thymyl methyl ether (21.07 to 26.7%), para-cymene (8 to 19%), γ-terpinene (22 to 32%) and dillapiole (13 to 26%).
