Abstract
AbstractCoagulogens prepared from four species of horseshoe crabs, Tachypleus tridentatus, Tachypleus gigas, Limulus polyphemus, and Carcinoscorpius rotundicauda, were comparatively studied on their biochemical and immunological characteristics. Each coagulogen had a molecular weight of about 20,000 by sodium dodecyl sulfate‐gel electrophoresis. The clotting enzyme of T. tridentatus could cause the gelation of the coagulogen not only from the species but also from other three species. Having analogous function in the clotting mechanism and the same value of molecular weight, only coagulogen of L. polyphemus was immunologically very different from that of others.
