Abstract

Optical characterization of biological tissues by means of polarimetric techniques is receiving a growing attention. Polarized light traveling through a turbid media looses its degree of polarization (DOP) due to scattering. The modification of the DOP of transmitted and backscattered light varies as a function of the particle properties. In this work we perform a comparative study of the DOP variations as a function of the particles diameter. The Monte Carlo method is used as a numerical approach of polarized light transport in turbid media. The results enable to further develop polarimetric studies to analyze biological tissues optical properties.
