Abstract

We report the power efficiency comparison of two tapered shape bimorph piezoelectric energy harvesters. Typically, the rectangular-shaped cantilever bimorph piezoelectric energy harvester is widely used in piezoelectric energy harvesting. Using the finite element analysis toolbox, we have compared the power efficiency of the triangular and trapezoidal shape bimorph piezoelectric energy harvester. The resonance frequency of these tapered shape harvesters has been extracted using modal analysis, at which maximum power efficiency of the harvester can be achieved. Our study shows that triangular shape bimorph piezoelectric energy harvesters generate more power than trapezoidal harvesters. In addition, lower resistance is required for the triangular bimorph harvester to generate maximum power at resonance, ensuring greater efficiency with minimal loss in sensing applications than the trapezoidal bimorph harvester.
