Abstract

The paper presents seismic response of a five story building equipped with smart base-isolation system using Lead rubber bearing (N-Z) and MR-damper placed in between foundation and base of the building. Five types of building viz. fixed base building, base isolated building without MR damper, base isolated building with MR damper in passive off/on mode, and base isolated building with MR damper driven by Fuzzy logic controller, base isolated building with MR damper driven by Neural network are studied. The peak base displacement and top floor absolute acceleration for controlled and uncontrolled cases are evaluated for past four earthquake ground motion history. The result of the study shows that the ANN is found to be effective in reducing mean peak isolator displacement relative to the FLC and FLC is found to be effective in reducing normalized mean peak top floor absolute acceleration relative to the ANN.
