Abstract

This study is an attempt to evaluate silicified trichomes and trichome bases in the Genus Luffa Mill. as a supportive tool for investigators working in various fields utilizing phytolith analysis. Systematic description of phytoliths in family Cucurbitaceae is scarce. Leaf samples of three species of genus Luffa Mill. viz., L. acutangula, L. cylindrica and L. hermaphrodita were taken for phytolith study and analysed morphometrically. Results indicate significant diversity in morphotype, shape and size of trichomes in all the three species, reflecting taxonomic significance.
