Abstract

A paraffin wax is a one of the best phase change material (PCM) for latent heat energy storage in case of solar energy system. However, it takes more time for energy charging and discharging due to poor thermal conductivity of paraffin wax. The performance of thermal energy storage (TES) unit can be improved fined-tubes, metal matrix etc. as available in literature. The multi pass TES unit may be the one of the option to enhance the performance of TES unit. In the current study, 3 different types of paraffin wax based TES units of capacity 4 liters have been modeled and compared. Comparative analysis of three TES units of same storage capacity was carried out for same fluid flow rate and temperature at inlet of storage unit. The comparative data and results of current study provide guideline for selection of proper heat exchanger for paraffin based TES unit for solar water heater (SWH).
