Abstract

Abstract Construction of tall building is rapidly increasing throughout the world. Advances in construction technology, structural systems, analysis and design software facilitated the growth of the buildings. Recently, the diagrid structural system has been widely used for tall buildings due to the structural efficiency and aesthetic potential provided by the unique geometric configuration of the system. The “diagrid” is a combination of the two words i.e. diagonal and grid which form triangular configuration around the periphery of building. In the diagrid structures, the vertical columns from the periphery are eliminated and this constructs the main difference between diagrids and exterior braced frames. The loads like seismic load and wind load are resisted by horizontal component of the diagrid column. In this paper, analytical study of 24 storey building with regular floor plan of 18 m×18 m size with conventional tube frame system and diagrid frame system is carried out. This analysis is carried out using ETABS software, to check performanance of the structure by response spectrum method. The comparison of analysis of results in terms of top story displacement, stoery drift, base shear and time period is presented here.
