Abstract

The S.A. of the precursor pools of cytidine and uridine and of the CMP and UMP of the nuclear and microsomal brain RNA were determined as a function of time after the simultaneous injection into the cisterna magna of [ 3H]cytidine and [ 14C]orotic acid. The step UMP → CMP was found to be reversible, since 3H activity was incorporated in the UMP fraction. The ratios 3H cpm/ 14C cpm of the CMP and UMP of the nuclear RNA were found to be not significantly different from those of the microsomal RNA. The significance of these data was discussed.
