Abstract

The behavior of a heterogeneous and a homogeneous design of a liquid-metal fast breeder reactor core with the same power and similar dimensions at beginning-of-equilibrium cycle is compared for several accident conditions (loss-of-flow and transient overpower) using the same failure criteria and model assumptions. The influence of the design is analyzed, and qualitative trends are deduced from the point of view of safety.
