Abstract

Feeding must be adequate to provide sufficient caloric intake to promote growth in children with CLP, who need to achieve weight and ideal health conditions to be able to undergo corrective surgeries. According to Delaire’s functional chronology used in our institution, first surgery is performed at 6 months with at least 8 kilograms. We promote and recommend breastfeeding because it is associated with more significant weight gain in children with or without a cleft.
