Abstract

For the purpose of developing a compact and efficient flash evaporator,, this paper deals with the comparative study of flash evaporation rates of various flashing methods. Based on the previous experimental studies concerning flash evaporation, flash evaporation rates of pool liquid exposed to a sudden pressure drop in a container, those of superheated flowing liquid in a conventional multi-stage flash (MSF) evaporator with an open channel, and those of superheated liquid jet ejected from a simple tubular nozzle or a circular orifice into a low-pressure vapor zone are compared with regard to the coefficient of flash evaporation rate k. From the results it was determined that the values of k of flashing liquid jet attain more than ten times as much as those of superheated pool liquid and those of superheated flowing liquid in a MSF evaporator.
