Abstract

As the mobile technology using Multi Carrier Modulation (MCM) techniques is moving towards 5G cellular technology to overcome the drawbacks in the existing technology - Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) which is a 4th generation (4G). Even though OFDM is giving good results; it has a few disadvantages like spectrum leakage and inefficient spectrum usage due to Cyclic Prefix (CP). In this paper, one of the 5G waveform - Filter Bank Multi Carrier (FBMC) waveform, its features and the 5G system implementation are discussed. The 5G communication system based on FBMC and OFDM are simulated using Keysight SystemVue software with A WGN conditions. The simulated results of both 4G and 5G systems are compared, which shows FBMC has better spectral efficiency and lesser Out of Band (OOB) Leakage than the OFDM system and also has a similar BER performance as that of OFDM.
