Abstract

The research of Dong-Jin Shin, Jung-Hyuk Koh and coworkers (pp. 1812–1817) is focused on the materials, the structure design, and optimized measurement systems for piezoelectric energy harvesters that can be used for future energy sources. Different types of design were considered and compared in order to extract the optimized conditions. Both bulk ceramic structure and ceramic pillars embedded in polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) were compared and discussed. Also, the design of multi-layered stacked structures was proposed to increase the energy density per area. By measuring the output energy of energy harvesters, the multi-layered structure of ceramic pillars with PDMS proves to be highly efficient for piezoelectric energy harvesting.
