Abstract

Lead free [(1-x)Bi 0.5 Na 0.5 TiO 3 -(x)Bi 0.5 K 0.5 TiO 3 ] ceramics with x = 0.18 were prepared by using microwave sintering technique. XRD of these ceramics show co-existence of tetragonal and rhombohedral phases. Smaller grain size and more uniform microstructure were observed in microwave sintered sample. It might result from different diffusion mechanism. The activation energy of grain growth was calculated. The results display in microwave sintered sample is lower (167kJ/mol) than that for conventional one (260kJ/mol). It implies microwave sintered sample just need lower energy for densification. The remanent polarization and piezoelectric constants of microwave sintered samples are higher than that of conventional sintered samples. Relation among processing kinetics, microstructural characteristics and electrical properties was discussed.
