Abstract

1. 1. The glycopeptide and glycosaminoglycans in the different layers of the human abdominal walls were assayed by determining the carbohydrate content of materials which remained after proteolysis. Values were highest in the skin and lowest in the muscle. 2. 2. Cellulose acetate strip electrophoresis of concentrates revealed the presence of three alcian blue positive fractions in every case. Although the proportion of the fraction which corresponded in mobility with hyaluronic acid was highest in the muscle, that of the fraction which corresponded in mobility with chondroitin sulfates and heparin was highest in the fascia.
