Abstract

The present research aims at examining the comparative structural analysis of two short stories, “The Necklace” by Guy De Maupassant and “The Nightingale and the Rose” by Oscar Wild. Jakobson’s six constituent elements i.e. Plot, character, setting, theme, title and conflict are explored in the light of comparative structural analysis of both the short stories. It would make the narration easy for the reader to understand and both the stories have a message a meaning and moral repercussions. Comparative structural analysis is very much useful in understanding all genres of literature especially modern short stories.
