Abstract

Survey of fluoroquinolones tablets marketed in three northern Nigeria towns revealed that in the year 2002-2003, as many as 41 brands were in circulation in this part of the country of which 92.7% were imported, and mostly from Asian countries. Only 27 of the 41 sampled brands had NAFDAC registration numbers. Analysis of the various tablet properties showed that 4 of the 18 commonly used brands sampled failed weight variation tests and had drug content below the BP limit of 90%.
