Abstract

Electric Spring is a smart demand side management equipment used in smart grids. This paper reports the voltage stabilization issue caused due to load variation in a wind driven self-excited induction generator based electric spring equipped isolated system. The controlling action of electric spring is mostly done by proportional integral (PI) controller. As PI controller is simple in structure but it can’t tolerate the real time variation effectively. A sliding mode controller (SMC) is proposed in this manuscript, to prove its ability against load disturbance. The system under goes load variation to observe the response of both the controller. Performance comparison of both PI and SMC controller was done using MATRIX LABROTARY software. The comparative analysis shows that SMC is superior than PI in stabilizing the voltage of isolated system.
