Abstract
The study of the conditions on a neutron generator of 200 keV was undertaken to obtain the maximal neutron flux. As targets heavy ice, copper bombarded with deuterons and a Ti-D foil were used. A steady maximal total flux with the heavy ice target was 2.9 × 10 8 sec −1 (7.3 × 10 5 sec −1 μA −1) while the values obtained with the selfformed D target on copper foil and with the Ti-D target were 2.7 × 10 7 sec −1 (1.7 × 10 5 sec −1 μA −1) and 1.5 × 10 8 sec −1 (3.3 × 10 5 sec −1 μA −1) respectively. The neutron yield is given as a function of the parameters: energy and current of incident deuterons, time of condensation of heavy ice before bombardment, time of bombardment and the flow of heavy water vapours.
