Abstract

The results of designs for two types of commutation circuits which meet the specifications of a dc chopper control drive are presented. The techniques for determining the chopper losses are described. The losses of two commutation circuits are evaluated and compared with those of gate-turnoff thyristor chopper for same drive specifications. The relative advantages of the gate-turn-off chopper as compared to the forced-commutated choppers are discussed.
