Abstract

The expression of genes linked to lipid metabolism mainly in lipogenesis, lipid transport and deposition contributes to the quality and composition of fat/lipids in the tissues. The present study investigated the expression changes in genes implicated in lipid biosynthesis (AGPAT2, DGAT2, FASN and GPAM), transport of fatty acids (FABP3) and lipid deposition (PLIN4) in muscles, liver, pancreas and kidney of Barbari goats. Real time quantitative PCR (polymerase chain reaction) analysis was used to estimate the expression level of different genes in the tissue samples. The expression of AGPAT2, DGAT2 and GPAM genes was higher in the liver while FASN was significantly (p<0.01) higher in skeletal muscles. FABP3 gene that coordinates transportation and signalling of lipids, as well as PLIN4 associated with fat deposition were mainly expressed in the muscles. The present study offers insight into the differential expression of genes involved in lipid metabolism in different tissues of Barbari goat.
