Abstract

This work presents an experimental investigation of Pumpless Vapour Absorption System (PVAS) by supplying the high-grade (electric power) and low-grade energy (LPG). The work experimentally investigates the behaviour of the PVAS components by using both energy sources. Experimental result shows the generator takes more time to warm up, around 120 and 35 s by supplying high-grade and low-grade energy, respectively. In the evaporator, the rate of decreasing temperature is higher by low-grade than the high-grade energy supply. It takes only 22 min to reach the steady state in low-grade energy input, while in high-grade energy it takes about 34 min. The work further investigated the mass flow rate of refrigerant and heat supplied in the generator with variation of refrigerating effect. Highlights Air conditioning industry consumes around 10–20% of the world energy. Supplying low-grade energy in pumpless vapour absorption system is suitable. Pumpless vapour absorption system is more beneficial in rural areas.
