Abstract
60 consecutive admissions (52 adult males, 8 adult females) to St George’s Hospital, Beirut, for coronary bypass surgery were admitted into this study to compare the efficacy and tolerability of a single intravenous dose of ceftriaxone 1g preoperatively with intravenous cefotaxime 1g 2 to 4 times daily for 1 to 3 days. One patient received cefotaxime for 13 days but subsequently died of septic shock.
