Abstract

Apparent ileal digestibility (AID) and apparent total tract digestibility (ATTD) of dry matter (DM), crude protein (CP), energy (E) and amino acids and urine contents were evaluated in six weanling pigs [(Landrace × Yorkshire) × Duroc] fed 3 diets containing soybean meal (SBM), fermented soybean meal (FSBM) or fermented soybean meal mixed with coconut oil (FSBM+CO). Pigs having body weights (BW) 15 ± 0.4 kg were surgically equipped with T- cannulas of roughly 15 cm prior to the ileocecal junction and casually allotted to one of the 3 diets according to 3 × 3 Latin square design. Weaning pigs fed with FSBM and FSBM+CO had significantly improved ATTD and AID of DM, CP, and GE compared with non-fermented SMB treatment. In addition, ATTD of amino acids such as methionine was greater in FSBM and FSBM+CO treatments compared with SBM treatment. Moreover, the AID of methionine, phenylalanine, lysine, arginine and total essential amino acids was significantly higher in FSBM and FSBM+CO pigs compared to the SBM treatments. The nitrogen concentration in urine nitrogen was decrease in FSBM and FSBM+CO treatment compared with SBM treatment. In conclusion, dietary supplementation of FSBM and FSBM+CO could improve the ATTD and AID of DM, CP, GE, and most of the essential amino acids and nitrogen contents of urine in weanling pigs.
