Abstract
Studies on the biodegradability of representative anionic surfactants using the Modified OECD Screening Test indicated deficiencies in the test for these materials. Biodegradation studies in natural ecosystems employing realistic substrate concentrations were found to contribute to a better understanding of the actual disappearance in the environment.
