Abstract

The results of 316 cultures of endocervical mucus are reported. One hundred and thirty-nine specimens were taken from women who desired to be fitted with an intrauterine contraceptive device, 112 specimens were taken from women who required tubal insufflation because of infertility, and 65 specimens were taken from women prior to cauterization of the cervix. Except for the finding of tubercle bacilli in 2.7 per cent of the infertility cases, in general, there was no significant qualitative or quantitative difference in the bacterial flora grown from specimens of these three groups of patients.
