Abstract

Betamethasone 17-benzoate and 6α,9α difluoroprednisolone 21-acetate 17-butyrate were compared to several other corticosteroids in the cotton pellet and carrageenin induced rat paw edema bioassays. The test compounds were administered subcutaneously or intragastrically and relative potencies were determined. It is concluded that betamethasone 17-benzoate and 6α,9α difluoroprednisolone 21-acetate 17-butyrate are very potent anti-inflammatory corticosteroids.
