Abstract
Rhinacanthus nasutus, Barleria lupulina and Clinacanthus nutans are Thai traditional medicinal plants that have been used for the treatment of skin affections, insect and snake bites and swellings due to fall or boils. Proving the powder of plant materials is necessary for quality control methods recommended by the WHO, a good understanding of plant anatomy is essential. Materials were fixed, embedded in paraffin, sectioned and stained with safranin-fastgreen combinations. The same characters of the three species are angular collenchyma and diacytic stomata. The differences are in the number of vein-islets and stomata cells mm2. The vein-islet densities of R. nasutus, B. lupulina and C. nutans were 2.5-3, 1.5-1.7 and 1-1.2 mm2, respectively. The stomata densities were 98-102, 48-50 and 54-56 cells/mm2 respectively.
