Comparative Analysis on Lateral Strength of Multi-Span RC Frame with Different Types of Infill Walls

Abstract

The seismic behaviour studies of structures with RC frame show that the wall with the infill significantly improved the structures lateral strength. However, since the numerical analysis of the structures considers the infill walls as non-structural components, the analysis rarely includes the infills. It is strongly recommended in the further research to investigate the behaviour of RC structures under seismic load for having the infill as one of the important components in their design process. This study developed two numerical models of multi-span RC frames; 1) with walls made of brick masonry, and 2) with wall made of lightweight block masonry. Furthermore, the results were compared with the analysis of lateral strength of the models. In order to verify the results, a comparison with the prior analytical study and experimental results was conducted.
