Abstract
Dong is a minority in China. The drum tower is the representative architecture of Dong culture and also is the traditional cultural symbol of the region of Southeast of Guizhou Province. This paper mainly compares the structure and construction features of the central-column drum tower and the “Hui” type drum tower, taking the Shudong drum tower in Liping County and the Zengchong drum tower in Congjiang County as examples. Both of the drum towers are in the Southeast of Guizhou Province. By analyzing the drum tower classification, planar form, column layout, structural components and construction technique, the differences between the two types of drum towers in the structure and construction were compared. This article could contribute to understand the drum tower in a clearer and more intuitive way.
