Abstract

The stability of the boiling front propagating at a constant rate in a geothermal reservoir is studied by the normal mode method. On the parameter plane, domains corresponding to the instability and water superheating ahead of the front are determined. It is found that instability of the phase transition front is always preceded by the transition of the water to a metastable state.
