Abstract

The objective of this study is to estimate finest dynamic characteristic and working features of two suspension system named as passive and semi active suspension system through contrastive study approach subjected to different road profile with the help of MATLAB Simulink. Basically, designers are well aware of semi active suspension system which fills the basic requirements that lies between passive and active suspension setup but for understanding, why it is ideal over passive suspension, our suggestion is refer this study to analyze it on performance basis. Under 6 road profiles named as full sinusoidal, Step, square, triangular, Trapezoidal and Double bump or pulse road profile. Based on the equation of motion there is generation of two different MATLAB Simulink program for each suspension system (passive and semi active). To compare both of them, one separate program has built to call individual prior model as a subsystem and make conclusive results. For semi active suspension system, purpose of PID controller is to get optimized results according to respective provided road input to them. Above mentioned road input generates disturbances as per their functionality and fed it to the system, then suspension systems objective comes into the picture that is reduce instability by reduction in vibration and provide ride comfort by nullifying the shocks considerably. Their individual performance is compared in graphical form along with the nature of input that is road profile and amplitude of it. Finally based on results, conclusion has been made that semi active suspension system is more suitable to get optimized results to fulfill suspension functionality.
