Abstract

This paper presents a method for refining the speed control of Direct Torque Control (DTC) of induction motor drive using Genetic Algorithm (GA) tuned proportional plus integral plus derivative (PID) controller. The DTC is widely used for controlling of torque and flux of induction motor drive (IMD). In addition to, IMD has following drawbacks such as multi-variable, strong coupling, non-linear and time-varying characteristics and because of these drawbacks; it is very difficult to achieve desired performance under steady and transient conditions. Hence, for better operation of IMD a GA tuned PID has been used. The advantage of GA tuned PID controller is shown by comparing the performance with other controllers like conventional PI controller and fuzzy-PI controller for DTC based induction motor drives. The pros and cons of these controllers are demonstrated by intensive simulation results and it is found that GA tuned PID controller outperformed the other controllers.
