Abstract

This paper focuses on the detailed comparative study of direct and indirect space vector modulation (SVM) strategies for a single-stage direct matrix converter (DMC). The main drawbacks of matrix converter (MC) with conventional modulation techniques are lower voltage transfer ratio (VTR), limited control on input power factor and higher total harmonic distortion (THD) in the output waveforms. Compared to conventional modulation techniques, the proposed modulation control strategies give lower losses, higher efficiency, improved THD spectrum, higher VTR and complete control on input power factor. Simulation studies are carried-out on different SVM techniques for the proposed system. A THD comparative analysis of the output voltage and current waveforms of the DMC is presented.
