Abstract

Traditional management of cauda equina syndrome (CES) has been to perform an extensive decompression, including bilateral wide lumbar laminectomies and/or discectomies with removal of any additional structures contributing to compression of the cauda equina. Less accepted in the treatment of CES is the role of spinal arthrodesis.
