Abstract

A comparative analysis of different computational methods was implemented to evaluate their usage in engineering design methodology of orifice pulse tube refrigerator (OPTR). A thermodynamic model to estimate the lowest temperature level in cold heat exchangerfor a given ratio of the pulse tube and compliance was developed. Two detailed time-dependent axisymmetric computational fluid dynamic (CFD) models of the OPTR to predict its performance was considered. The computational results were compared with experimental results to validate the choice of model for numerical design methodology.
